Bologna, June 25, 2019 - A big party was organized to celebrate the opening of Cremedoce De Fronteira, a gelato shop with training center located in Ressano Garcia, a small town in Mozambique, on the border with South Africa. Inaugurated on April 26, 2019, the center was founded as a charity project to promote entrepreneurship and is supported by: Rotary Club Bologna - Valle dell'Idice, Rotary Foundation, District 2072 Emilia-Romagna and Republic of San Marino and D.4905 Argentina Buenos Aires of Rotary International, Bruto and Poerio Carpigiani Foundation, A.G.A.P.E. ONLUS, Fabbri 1905 and the master pastry chef Gino Fabbri, coach of the World Pastry Champions. The Bolognese pastry chef flew to Africa to attend the opening ceremony, and once there completed the training of the business project's first eight employees (five men and three women), creating a beautiful cake for the celebration that combined local fresh fruit and the expertise of Italian pastry with Carpigiani technology and ingredients made available by Fabbri 1905. Lots of smiles and the awareness that there was still a long way to go to learn the professions of pastry chef and gelato artisan, but with a common dream shared by all: to offer an excellent gelato to Pope Francis who will visit Mozambique next September.

The big opening party on April 26th was attended by: Angela Passy Bastos, President of the Rotary Club Polana-Maputo; Bruno de Amaral, past president of the same club and first head of the Global Grant Project no. 1758744 together with the Bolognese Fabrizio Pedretti, first supporter of the initiative; Valentina Gianni from Agape Onlus, a supporter of the project; the representative of the Posto Administrativo de Ressano Garcia; the town's parish priest; a representative of the Guarda de Fronteira, and one from Migraçao.

In the year since the project was launched, the young people being trained were followed by experts from Fabbri 1905 who reside in South Africa. The training center is used both as a daily production space and for job training classes organized by the Joao Batista Scalabrini Center, which for years has focused on training young mothers and orphans. Two points of sale were then set up with the new"Cremedoce de Fronteira logo: one a gelato parlor and the other a traditional ice cream truck.

All these activities complete what began in March 2018 when three Mozambican students were guests in Bologna for three weeks to participate in a gelato course at Carpigiani Gelato University, a pastry course at ISCOM Scuola di Gusto, a gelato and pastry course in the workshops of Fabbri Master Class and some practical workshops with Gino Fabbri at Dolci Artisti in Cadriano.

"Rotary is a global association/network founded in 1905, today counting 1.2 million businesspeople, professionals, and leaders in more than 200 countries, who through volunteer work, service, and new projects contribute to a better world, promoting peace and understanding among peoples, developing local economies, and supporting new generations. This project is of international importance to us and we are honored to have launched it with the substantial support of the Rotary Foundation, which sees it as a strategic international endeavor that has the merit of giving work to young Mozambicans in their own country," said Mario Pantano, Rotary Club Bologna Valle dell'Idice.

"Our master gelato artisans are already thinking of a special flavor to be prepared in honor of Pope Francis and inspired by the colors and flavors of Mozambique, a country that needs all our solidarity," Fabbri 1905 noted.

"For me this project has been an extremely interesting experience on a cultural, professional, and, above all, human level. At the training center in Ressano Garcia I found people who from the very first minute were eager to understand and learn the techniques for making pastry and gelato. A team that, together with Valentina Gianni di Agape, welcomed me as a member of the family," says the master Gino Fabbri.

The training center has become a point of reference for the local area and has given the opportunity to a first group of about ten members of the community of the Joao Batista Scalabrini Center to start a small local business that produces and sells product that will also be served in the hotels and resorts on the Mozambican coast frequented by tourists from South Africa.  The initiative falls under the name "Solidarity Project for Africa no. 1758744 of the Rotary Foundation" and was supported with a contribution of $ 95,000 to the Scalabrinian Sisters Center in Ressano Garcia. Once the start-up is completed, the second stage of the project will proceed with the technical and commercial training of the team that now manages the center.
