“Mapapa”, “Sweet & Happines” and “Hazelnut Meringue Pie Ice” win the Gelato Festival Challenge in Amsterdam during Horecava 2020 trade show

The gelato artisans go on to the next step of the Gelato Festival World Masters 2021

AMSTERDAM, 15 January 2020  – Gelato Festival Challenge continues its journey around the world making a stop in Horecava trade show in Amsterdam on January 14TH where 27 gelato artisans took part in the sweetest competition of the year hosted by Carpigiani Benelux, Carpigiani distributor in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. The winning flavors are “Mapapa” by Lorenz De Groot from Rijnlaan 29 in Utrecht (yoghurt gelato with mango, passionfruit and papaya variegato and meringues), “Sweet & Happines” by Marten Riedstra from Ijsslalon Ijskald in Lemmer (greek yogurt with cachi variegato & roosted almonds coated in honey) and “Hazelnut meringue pie ice” by Jean Pierre Bax from Luciano Ijssalon in Wassenaar (hazelnut ice with meringue topping, hazelnut ganache and butter scotch crunchy hazelnuts).

The selected gelato artisan go on to the European Finals of Gelato Festival scheduled for 2021 in Italy at the Carpigiani Gelato University headquarters. Flavor, structure, creativity and presentation are the four parameters used for the evaluation, highlighting the choice of ingredients, the craftsmanship in elaborating the recipe and the visual impact of the gelato.

  3. Bob Frie, Meester ijsbereider
  4. Roger Van Damme, world renowned chef at Het Gebaar restaurant
